About This Project

Your True Self

Philosophy

“The first time we are born through our mothers, but the second time we are born through ourselves – this is the birth of our true self”
– Dr Rosina-Fawzia Al-Rawi Al-Rifai

I met Dr Rosina-Fawzia in Vienna, Austria last August and stayed in her House of Peace for an Intensive Sufi Training for Women – learning mindfulness and meditation practices and rituals for self-empowerment. What was initially meant to be a one week trip ended up being three weeks when I was decided to extend my stay to have private lessons with Fawzia (my own private retreat) after the training.

Women from all around the world come to stay at The House of Peace – Fawzia holds private retreats for women who long to foster inner and outer peace with themselves and their surroundings, who are walking a path to self-knowledge and need a place where they can retreat to birth their true-self. Women come to be nourished spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically. I saw Fawzia every single day of my private retreat, I was given rituals and practices to help me with my inner work, movement for my body, and nourishing food (Fawzia has a fabulous woman on-site, Maryam, who cooks nourishing food for the women).

Some trips last a lifetime, and this is one such trip – I know the teachings will accompany me for my whole life and for that I am immensely grateful.

Practice

I would encourage you to create space for yourself every morning – even if you only have 5 minutes, give yourself those 5 minutes. Sit and connect to your heart – this is where our source of self-empowerment and wisdom resides. If you are wondering how to ‘connect to your heart’ try this:

  • Sit in a comfortable position or Lie down.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Place your left hand on your heart and your right hand on top of your left hand – both hands on your heart.
  • Feel your heartbeat.
  • Inhale and imagine yourself breathing into your heart.
  • Exhale and release any tension in the body + negativity in the mind.
  • Smile. Breathe. Feel. Smile. Breathe. Feel. Smile.Breathe. Feel.

It has been scientifically proven that our heart has astonishing powers and intelligence – our heart knows before our mind does. The documentary, The Power of the Heart, shares real-life stories as well as scientific evidence that when we listen to our heart it can give us powerful realisations and help guide us through change.

No matter how many things we may have, or what we may have accomplished in life, if we are estranged and disconnected from our heart we will not know peace…and without this inner peace we will never feel free. Freedom is the key to becoming a sovereign, confident and empowered woman….when we choose this path as women, we metaphorically gave birth to our true selves.

May we all live with authenticity and make choices that are true to our spirit.
